Laura King was one of the soloists in the Turkey In Music concert, celebrating Turkish-Australian cultures and commemorating the ANZAC Centenary. In the Lieder category at the 2014 Sydney Eisteddfod, Laura performed Von Ewiger Liebe by Brahms. Adjudicator Daniel Sumegi praised her performance for its “great sense of drama and language” in awarding her second place.
In the French & German Art Song category at the 2014 Sydney Eisteddfod, Laura performed Allerseelen by Richard Strauss. In awarding her third place, adjudicator John Bolton Wood commended her performance for its “strong but sensitive singing, a fine mastery of the style and rhythm – a strong, vibrant performance”.
Laura auditioned for the Mietta Song Competition in April 2014. Making it to the top 10, she was invited to Melbourne to attend the competition’s master classes in July. She is appreciative of the opportunity given by the highly regarded national competition to further her professional development.
Laura was the main soloist booked to perform at the Geological Society of Australia’s biennial conference in July 2014. Performing at Newcastle’s iconic Civic Theatre, she sang a selection of musical theatre and operatic numbers.
