‘River Songs’ with Hourglass Ensemble at Sydney Opera House

“The river has physical presence, deriving identity from water, currents, tides, light, mangroves, birds, ferries, people. It carries connotations of life itself, the miraculous continuity of time and generations.” – Betty Beath

Sydney’s favourite international chamber music export, the Hourglass Ensemble, returns to The Uzton Room, Sydney Opera House, to perform Australian music for soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, harp, and piano, including music of three Brisbane composers.

Laura King features with Hourglass Ensemble performing the Australian Song Cycle ‘River Songs’ by Betty Beath and excerpts from Massenet’s opera Thaïs. Sensual, crystalline, and luscious “River Songs” portrays cities built around rivers and oceans, and the way those living there have connection, history, and belonging with water.
